Match Report for 8/12/2005

Dragons 1st 5 V 0 Cheshire County Officers 2nd (Home)

Dragons took to CCO 2nd this week, who have been having a tough time following the loss of a few players during the summer, and so it proved.

First on, Colin Elson, whilst again not hitting the heights of earlier in the season, had enough to see off the challenge of Sat Marwaha. After a few tense moments early on Colin settled down and saw out the match 3-1, to put Dragons one up.

Next, the battle of the ‘ol boys as Peter Lee took on Trevor Jones, with more than enough years of squash here to probably remember when the game was invented. However it was Peter’s ‘experience’ that came to the fore to record a pleasant 3-0 win.

Number one Giles Cook then took on the much improved Tony Puplett, and ‘much improved’ didn’t seem enough as Tony proceeded to wallop the big burly, rugby playing farmer, and at 2-0 it looked as though CCO could be back in the match. However Giles obviously realised this was not still the warm-up, and came out fighting to storm back and take the match 3-2 and put the team into an unbeatable 3-0 lead.

It was then left to Phillip Noble to entertain the crowd and this he did with some aplomb, although this had nothing to do with his squash, merely his on court ‘antics’ and ‘adrenalin’ rushes - allegedly!! The outcome was a 3-0 win over the hapless Tony Apollonio, probably dazzled by Phillip’s comedy value!!

Finally skipper Brian Meehan took on Graham Hill (we shall try avoid all motor racing puns!), in a revved-up match, where Meehan was always in the driving seat and raced away to take a 3-0 chequered flag, as well as completion a 5-0 Team Dragons, and boy did the champagne flow!!

This sets up the big match week away at the potentially very strong, third placed Winsford, although regardless of the result Dragons will top the table at the halfway point, a bit like having a Christmas number one, pop-pickers, not ‘alf!!!

Dragons 2nd

Nothing from the second team, believe they won 4-1 at Winsford 2nd

Dragons 3rd 0 V 5 Tattenhall 2nd (Home)

The third team went down to the terribly, terrific, table-topping Tattenhall, Jake Blakeman, Ian Kerrod and Steve Mcmahon picking up a point each for the home team, whilst Val Barry and Mark Bryant (disappointing his travelling fan club), both lost 3-0, although both narrowly losing games 10-9, Mark being unlucky twice.
